About us

Sentinel is the only locally run housing association in north Hampshire. That means decisions on the communities we serve are made right here, not in a distant head office.

We’re a single organisation of just over 200 staff, managing a property portfolio of 7900 homes, 3400 garages, 20 shops plus support services for thousands more customers.

As a not-for-profit landlord, any surplus from our c£40m a year turnover is reinvested back into our neighbourhoods, such as on more upgrades of existing homes, regenerating outdated estates, or simply building more homes.

Our homes range from town centre apartment blocks to rural cottages – so our approach is to focus on what we do best, and then work with councils, schools, advice agencies, and government departments to tackle complex housing-related issues together.

We're run by a board of 12, including five resident board members, plus others drawn from a wide mix of backgrounds in both the public and private sectors.

High quality affordable homes at Marnel Park, Basingstoke, delivered by David Wilson HomesThe board’s role is to lead, direct, control and challenge and monitor all our work, from where to build new homes to how much we invest in improving existing homes. The board meets 10 times a year.

Further scrutiny is provided by four councillors, representing Basingstoke & Deane Borough and Hart District – where 90% of our homes are located.

Our four-strong Executive team is the top level of management, responsible for day-to-day matters and ensuring the board’s wishes are carried out throughout Sentinel.

Although we are an independent housing association, and not part of a group, we do have affiliations and partnerships to ensure the best possible deal for our local area.

We have also joined the Placeshapers Group – a lobby group of 50 locally focused housing associations committed to tackling complex social problems alongside our landlord function.
