Twenty-seven affordable homes in Hampshire completed
12 September 2006 -
Twenty-seven affordable homes in Chineham, Hampshire, which were the result of a partnership between Sentinel Housing Association and Gleeson Homes, have been completed.
Originally the area was designated for the Chineham extension program in 1979 and the County Council obtained outline planning permission for a residential, commercial and leisure facility mixed development in 2001. The residential element being a total of 336 homes in 6 phases, 69 of which were designated as being affordable under the overarching section 106 agreement.
A number of preferred RSLs were then put forward to Hampshire County Council for phases two and five by Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council and Sentinel was successful.
Sentinel then worked closely with Gleeson Homes to produce 27 homes of the highest quality in the contract time. The homes were divided into 13 general needs rented and 14 shared ownership Key Worker homes. The site also provided a much needed five bedroom property required by one of the area's special needs families.
Sentinels Development Project Manager Bill Thripp said: "The homes have been a great success with all the Key Worker properties being reserved within five weeks of handover to Sentinel from Gleeson's. We look forward to being able to work with Gleeson's on forthcoming projects and hope that this was the start of a long lasting partnership which will provide much needed high quality affordable housing for the area."
