Faroe Close and Maldive Road Maisonettes

Regeneration of the whole of the Faroe Close and Maldive Road maisonettes in Basingstoke has been approved in principle by the Sentinel Housing Association Board.

The results of the extensive public consultations held earlier in the year, and the option appraisals carried out by the Architects PRP, have identified option 4 as the most suitable way forward. This option involves the entire redevelopment of the area, incorporating the demolition of the 124 existing maisonettes and development of new houses, flats and associated parking.

Sentinel will require the support, input and help of the local authority, central government and the residents to ensure that the project is another successful regeneration in the same way as the acclaimed Oakridge Village project.

The Association will now need to look at design proposals to see how the project will work in terms of estate layout and then it can be costed up in detail by professional consultants.

Tenants and residents will continually be updated on progress with the scheme via a regular newsletter and other public consultation events planned for the near future. Sentinel are serious about involving the community in the project and would like residents to have the opportunity to influence the emerging designs.

The project is technically challenging and will take a number of years to actually get started on site. This is due to the time taken to prepare a detailed design in close consultation with the community, to secure land from the Council, to obtain planning permission and hopefully to be allocated grant funding from the Housing Corporation. It is estimated that start on site might be achieved within 3 years.
