Get With scheme and Family Fun Days
5 September 2006 -
Sentinel Housing Association has organised over 70 Get With sessions a free youth activity programme for kids aged eight to sixteen, which is run at various locations across North Hampshire and parts of Berkshire throughout the school holidays.
The aim of Get With is to alleviate anti-social behaviour often associated with school holiday boredom. Activities that have taken place at the sessions have included football, tennis, cheerleading, hockey, and a mix of other multi sports and arts and craft activities.
The kids who took part in Sentinel's Get With scheme in Bishops Green, Berkshire, were in for a treat when Robin Tobin, the four times 400 silver medals winner at the European Games, presented them with certificates for taking part in the Get With scheme. The event took place on Friday 1 September and brought to a close the summer holiday sessions. Robin Tobin, who has also won medals for the 400 flat and is ranked second in England, also talked to the kids and showed them his medal that he got at the European Games in the 4x400 relay.
Feedback from the Get With scheme has been optimistic with the young people taking part saying they had a positive experience and enjoyed the scheme.
Sentinel also organised two Family Fun Days for the summer, which took place at Hartley Wintney and Sherfield-on-Loddon in Hampshire. Circus skills, face painting and football coaching were just some of the fun activities that were on offer at the Family Fun Days.
The free events were open to the whole community and were aimed at providing fun days out for the whole family.
Other entertainment which took place on the days included a Teddy Bears Picnic, sports equipment, balloon race and music and dance. The events were also attended by the local Fire Brigade, Police and St.Johns Ambulance.
Sentinels Neighbourhood Team Manager Louise Price, said: As part of our work in local neighbourhoods, we have organised two fun days aimed at providing a good fun day out for all the family. We hope the fun days will go down particularly well for those who are on summer holidays from school. Therell be plenty to do for children of all ages and anyone is welcome to come and join in the fun.
