Disability forum
The disability forum was established in October 2009 and its purpose is to:
- advise us on how to improve the services it delivers to disabled residents; and
- provide input into our Disability Equality Action Plan.
The forum has provided a number of actions for the equality action plan, these include:
- Involve customers with disabilities in design issues;
- Ensure contractors are educated and have more understanding and empathy with customers with disabilities;
- Review the feasibility of having a single point of contact to co-ordinate aids and adaptations;
- Increase the involvement of customers with disabilities in the planning and understanding of the details of the aids and adaptations services in terms of cost, quality, timeliness and satisfaction;
- Involve customers with disabilities in product specifications; and
- Maintain asset management records with details of properties where adaptations have been carried out.
The forum is open to all Sentinel Housing Association residents of any age who have a disability or care for someone with a disability. This includes individuals who have any long-term illness, health problem which limits their daily activities or someone who has a physical or mental impairment that has a substantial and long-term impact on their day to day lives.
There are currently more than 50 residents who have shown an interest in being involved, with around 15 attending regular quarterly meetings.
If you would like to get involved please contact Richard Pilbeam.
