This table provides a summary of who is eligible for Sentinel's low-cost-home-ownership purchase and low-cost-rental options:

Social Homebuy

Existing 'secure / assured' tenants - where tenancy began:

  • Before 18th January 2005 -you may be eligible 2 years after the date you signed your tenancy agreement
  • After 18th January 2005 - you may be eligible 5 years after the date you signed your tenancy agreement

Right-to-buy

Existing tenants who have been 'secure' tenants in the following local authorities:

  • Hart District Council - since 9th March 1994
  • Basingstoke & Deane Borough Council - since 20th March 1995

Right-to-Acquire

Existing 'secure / assured' tenants - where tenancy began:

  • Before 18th January 2005 -you may be eligible 2 years after the date you signed your tenancy agreement
  • After 18th January 2005 - you may be eligible 5 years after the date you signed your tenancy agreement

Re-sale properties

  • Key Workers
  • Existing tenants
  • Applicants on the 'Homebuy' agents register

Keyworker Rental properties

Please also note that Sentinel is a 'charitable' organisation and therefore we are required to assess applicants in terms of their housing need and their financial situation to ensure that they are suitable charitable beneficiaries.

These assessments will apply to all applicants wishing to purchase/rent property from us except for current Sentinel tenants purchasing their existing home under the Right to Buy, Right to Acquire or Social Homebuy schemes. What do these words/terms mean? Visit the  Jargon Buster page.
