NOV 2010 - Your neighbourhood needs you

Sentinel - join your local neighbourhood panelCould you be the next representative in your local Neighbourhood Panel? There are currently opportunities for tenants and leaseholders to become part of the Neighbourhood Panels. We’re especially looking for volunteers from Yateley, Aldershot, Farnborough, and Andover, plus Tadley and Kingsclere, and the villages in between.

Neighbourhood Panels represent the views of Sentinel tenants and work with Sentinel Housing Association (SHA) to improve the quality of life for all tenants, leaseholders and other residents in those neighbourhoods.

As a Neighbourhood Panel representative you will:

  • work together to develop, implement and monitor the Neighbourhood Action Plan(s);
  • engage in consultation and involvement activities that support the Neighbourhood Action Plan(s);
  • ensure the interests of all residents are represented on all matters relating to the neighbourhood and promote residents’ rights to have a say in the way all services are provided;
  • work together to agree and monitor a Neighbourhood Budget including a Community Chest;
  • proactively encourage and support the formation of Neighbourhood Action Groups to focus on specific local issues; and
  • encourage residents to participate in training and education programmes and support them to use such training to promote community development and cohesion.

Neighbourhood Panels hold meetings once a month and as a member your travel expenses, babysitting, childminding or carer costs (up to £6 per hour) will be reimbursed. You’ll also receive training to help you get a better deal for your neighbourhood.
