MFC Popley scores with Sentinel

More than 100 young footballers in Basingstoke are set to benefit after MFC Popley announced a new sponsorship deal with local landlord Sentinel Housing Association.

The three-year funding will put the amateur club for 6-14 year olds on a sound footing, and help pay for new kits and equipment so MFC Popley can continue to challenge for local footballing honours.

MFC Popley was set up three years ago with a handful of youngsters from the various Popley estates. Since then, membership has soared, and the club’s star players have attracted attention from professional clubs, such as Reading, Southampton, Chelsea and Portsmouth.

Investing in Popley

Sentinel’s Neighbourhood Manager for Popley, Steve Thorn added: “We’re investing record amounts in Popley, from regenerating old estates to upgrading existing homes, and funding new works of art and traffic improvements.

“We’re very impressed with the set-up at MFC Popley and have supported the club since the early days, so we’re excited at being able to put together a three-year package that will provide some much-needed stability during these tough times for fund-raising.”
