Sharing a vision for the regeneration of the Maldive and Faroe area
As part of Sentinel Housing Associations continuous programme of consultation with local people on proposals for the future regeneration of the Maldive and Faroe area of Basingstoke, a drop-in session is planned from 3pm 7pm on Tuesday 13 November at the Barbican Public House, Maldive Road.
The session offers a further opportunity for all residents to offer their views on the latest design proposals, on how best to deliver a range of much needed modern affordable accommodation for local people, whilst enhancing the local environment and neighbourhood.
Following previous input from the community, Sentinel have been developing these contributions in liaison with Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council (BDBC), local councillors, and architects.
All the community is welcome to drop-in to review the drawings. Representatives will be on hand from Sentinel, BDBC and architects, PRP, to answer any queries and to listen to suggestions and concerns.
Basingstoke and Deane Borough Councils Cabinet Member for Housing and Regeneration, Councillor Cecilia Morrison said: "Its an essential part of any development to gain the views of local people. I urge everyone in the community to attend the session to understand about what is being proposed in the area and to have your say on the final proposals for the future of the development. The council is pleased to be working with Sentinel on improving the local area for residents and this is an important part of the process.
Once the communitys views are captured and the proposals are finalised, the next step in the project will be to consider submitting a planning application and obtaining BDBCs agreement as landowner, in order to translate the vision for the area into reality.
Julie Porter, Head of Development and Asset Management at Sentinel said: Since we first started talking to residents 18 months ago about the future of the maisonettes, weve been working hard to produce plans that will revitalise the area producing a neighbourhood that will reflect the needs and aspirations of the local community. Key to the success will be creation of modern affordable housing for local people whilst retaining and improving the amenity and recreational space that runs through the heart of the area.
