New kitchens and bathrooms for hundreds of Sentinel customers
14 January 2008 -
The New Year sees the start of work on brand new kitchens and bathrooms for hundreds of Sentinel Housing Association’s customers living in the Hart, Rushmoor and Basingstoke areas.
Sentinel, who work in communities across North Hampshire have made an additional £800,000 available for further kitchen and bathroom refurbishments and heating upgrades this financial year. The upgrades, which will begin this month, will see customers being offered a varied choice of different kitchen cupboards, worktops, and several choices of colours with flooring, wall tiles, wallpaper and paint.
With £3.7million already being spent on planned refurbishment programmes this year, this additional money takes the programmes to £4.5million and will make a significant difference to quality of life for many residents.
This is in addition to a further £4.1million being spent this year on other planned maintenance works such as new doors and windows, roofing works, rewiring and environmental improvements.
A proportion of the additional funding will be used to fund further boiler upgrading works. Sentinel are moving forwards with a view to replacing older less reliable boilers with ‘A’ rated energy efficient models. Along with the boiler replacements, system controls will be upgraded and thermostatic radiator valves will be installed.
These measures should help to reduce running costs and assist with environmental issues.
Sentinel's Head of Development and Asset Management, Julie Porter, said: “Sentinel are committed to providing a high standard of housing for our customers. We are delighted that our Board have made these additional funds available which will enable many more tenants to see the benefits of our improvements programmes.”
Sentinel has a £38 million, five-year, investment programme and is committed to achieving the Decent Homes Standard by 2010. This will be accomplished by recognising which elements of Sentinels housing stock require updating and continually updating the Housing Database with up to date Stock Condition Survey information.
