Sentinel agrees affordable housing deal with Barratt in Basingstoke
Sentinel Housing Association is investing a significant amount of money in the provision of affordable homes at Highfields in Old Kempshott Lane, Basingstoke.
Working with Barratt Southern Counties, Sentinel Housing Association will deliver 91 affordable homes, including 64 for rent and 27 for shared ownership, which range from one-bedroom apartments to five-bedroom houses.
When complete the 30-acre site in Old Kempshott Lane will comprise a total of 300 homes, both private and affordable, set in a beautifully-designed landscape of streets, squares and avenues. An existing football pitch has been upgraded while a five-acre public park will provide plenty of space for residents and the local community to enjoy. The development will have a rural feel to it although it is only two miles from Basingstoke town centre and therefore offers the best of both worlds.
Trevor Sawyer, Managing Director of Barratt Southern Counties commented: Barratt enjoys an ongoing relationship with Sentinel Housing Association and, indeed, are looking forward to working with them on some of our forthcoming schemes. Architecturally, there will be no difference between the private and affordable homes at Highfields and we are sure that those who will ultimately live there will appreciate the properties and the development itself.
Julie Porter, Sentinel Head of Development and Asset Management added: We are pleased to be working with Barratt again since we have developed a number of successful schemes together. This is an exciting new development for Basingstoke which will provide much needed high quality affordable accommodation for local people.
The first phase of construction work has now started and this includes over 30 of the new affordable properties. It is hoped that the first residents will move into their new homes this autumn and overall completion of the site is expected in June 2010.
Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council's Cabinet Member for Housing and Regeneration Cllr Cecilia Morrison said: "There is a continuing need for affordable housing in the borough. I am pleased that the first phase of this development will provide 30 new affordable homes."
