Sentinel Housing Association brings more affordable homes to Aldershot
5 February 2008 -
Plans to build 73 affordable homes in Aldershot have moved forward, following the purchase of the Alma House site by Sentinel Housing Association.
Sentinel intends to develop the site, situated on the corner of Crimea Road and Sebastopol Road in Aldershot town centre, to provide a mix of both affordable rented and shared ownership homes.
Planning consent was granted by Rushmoor Borough Council at its planning committee meeting on Wednesday January 30 for a scheme of 73 one and two bedroom apartments with 73 parking spaces.
The old commercial buildings on the site have already been demolished and work on the new scheme will start very shortly.
Sentinel Head of Development and Asset management, Julie Porter said: “This is an exciting scheme for Sentinel. Having developed a large number of affordable new homes in partnership with Rushmoor Borough Council in the Farnborough and Cove area, we are pleased to now be working together in Aldershot.
“We have worked hard with our architects, Format Milton, to bring forward an excellent scheme design with a large central atrium to bring light into the heart of the development. The scheme also provides an external courtyard and garden area for residents to enjoy.”
Rushmoor Borough Council Cabinet Member for Health and Housing, Cllr Francis Williams, said: "We are pleased to be working with Sentinel on this development. Not only will it provide a significant number of affordable homes for local people, but it will also help to regenerate that part of the town centre and I look forward to seeing it completed in late 2009."
