Printing House Court, Crimea Road, Aldershot
Site history
The site of the former printworks at Alma House, Aldershot was bought by Sentinel in 2006, and planning consent was secured in January 2008 for 73 flats. Located in the middle of a dense built up residential area with restricted site access, the site has roads on three sides and a car park on the fourth, posing many challenges for our contractor, Osborne Homes.
The site is in central Aldershot which is popular with those commuting to London. Aldershot town centre retains a mix of original Victorian architecture and modern shopping amenities, with a range of national retailers, a good mix of arts and entertainment facilities and ample car parking.
Scheme background
This six-storey development in the centre of Aldershot comprises thirty-three one bedroom and forty, two bedroom flats; thirty-nine of which are for affordable rent and thirty-four for intermediate tenure ( some shared ownership and some sub-market rent). The flats are built around a glass atrium, with 73 underground car parking spaces, landscaped courtyard, CCTV, and a concierge service.
Our investment of £8,310.00 was supported by a £2.8m grant from the Homes and Communities Agency and £390,00 from Rushmoor Borough Council.
Sentinel will also be investing £175,000 in improvements to local parks, Southwood Woodland, and a new pavement.
Features
The scheme uses traditional materials and includes a basement car park constructed with a reinforced concrete frame, externally clad in facing brick with a glass atrium for residential use. Set to achieve EcoHomes ‘Very Good’, the construction includes high insulation, sustainable procurement of materials, low water usage, a home office and integral cycle storage facilities.
