Site history
The site is located on the western edge of Basingstoke town situated opposite Worting Infants School off Old Kempshott Lane and approximately 150 metres south of the B3400 Worting Road.
To the northeast there is an existing grassed kickabout area and a paddock on the former cricket ground with some boundary hedgerows and trees.
Scheme history
Procured through a strategic alliance with lead national house builder Barratt Homes Ltd. Part of a comprehensive development programme for the area which includes proposals for a new main line railway station and other major infrastructure improvements.
The development as a whole provides 303 new homes.
Features
High quality landscaping has been deployed for the communal areas, and extensive public space has been
allocated throughout the development. The Housing Corporation supported the scheme with a £1.9m grant, and the project achieved the Ecohomes Very Good standard, along with Secure by Design accreditation.
Traditional construction was used for the apartments and thin bed masonry for the houses. The development includes 2 five bedroom houses, 1 four bedroom house, 19 three bedroom houses, 27 two bedroom houses and 15 two bedroom apartments for rent.
Affordability
Homes were let from the B&DBC housing waiting list at a typical rent of £116.69 for a two-bedroom house and £110.21 for a two-bedroom apartment.
