3 million to refurbish homes

29 January 2007 -

Sentinel Housing Association is about to spend 3 million to refurbish around 375 of its properties across the Basingstoke, Hart and Rushmoor Districts this financial year 2006/07. A further 2 million will be spent on the refurbishment programme the following year.

The houses will be fitted with new kitchens and bathrooms with the additional option of an external light outside the property or an electric over-bath shower in the bathroom.

Customers can choose from a range of kitchen cupboards, worktops, flooring, wall tiles, wallpaper and paint.

Sentinel has a 38 million, five-year, investment programme and is committed to achieving the Decent Homes Standard by 2010. This will be accomplished by recognising which elements of Sentinels housing stock require updating and continually updating the Housing Database with up to date Stock Condition Survey information. In addition to kitchen and bathroom replacements, major programmes are underway to provide new central heating systems, windows and doors, re-wiring and re-roofing.

One resident who recently had their home refurbished said: "I was delighted with the attitude and quality of workmanship of all the contractors," and another resident said: "Thank you, very very pleased, a lovely refurbishment, very well done."

Julie Porter, Head of Development and Asset Management, said: Sentinel is really pleased with the high satisfaction rates delighted with the response we have received from our customers and are extremely happy to be able to offer such a varied choice to our tenants who benefit from these refurbishments."
