Decent Homes Standards

In 2001 the Government set all Housing providers the target of brining their homes up to a certain standard by 2010.

With a budget of £9.6m for planned maintenance this year, Sentinel will be delivering the Decent Homes Standard in 2009, a year ahead of target.

What can I expect?

Decent Homes Standard means that your home should be warm, weatherproof, have reasonably modern facilities and be in a reasonable state of repair.

Your home is not in a reasonable state of repair if one or more of its main parts are old and, because of their condition, are in need of replacing or needing major repair work, including:
  • external walls
  • roof structure and covering
  • windows/external doors
  • chimneys
  • central heating boilers
  • gas fires
  • storage heaters
  • electric wiring

We also look at the age of your kitchen and bathroom.  Did you know that you may be  entitled to a new kitchen every 20 years and a new bathroom every 30 years?

We have a list of properties that will receive replacement kitchens/bathrooms this year. This year we have included the option of a designer range of kitchens.

When you're at the top of our list, we will write to let you know.  For more information about our planned maintenance programme or to find out if your due a new kitchen or bathroom, please call our free phone number.

Can I design my new kitchen/bathroom?
Yes you can! After we have informed you of what your entitled to, a contractor will arrange to visit.  They will bring a laptop to help you design your kitchen.
